  Lourdesians Para Kay Dyes

For Lourdesians about to Host the next Alumni Homecoming or soon-to-be Hosting the Event set during February. Preparations, Planning, Implementation require a lot of Time, Effort and Money to have a Systematic and Well-Organized celebration.

The Idea is to have a Simple and No-Risk Fund Raising Activity which will Benefit the Jubilarians and most Lourdesians regardless of Batch groups.

A promo dubbed as “LOURDESIANS Para kay Dyes“ is proposed to help raise funds for the Jubilarians and the following Batches to Host the Annual Alumni Homecoming.

OBJECTIVES
  • To Help the Jubilarians and soon-to-be Hosting the Event to raise funds without any risks involved.
  • To Build Strong Inter-relationships among Different Batches.
  • To Promote Generosity and Compassion towards Fellow Lourdesians.

The promo is a simple and no-risk Fund Raising Activity designed to be implemented on Restaurants / Bars owned and operated by Fellow Lourdesians.

The promo is simply adding ten (10) pesos to a bottle of beer consumed by Lourdesians, all profits under the promo will be remitted back to each respective Batch Representative on a monthly basis.

In effect, the Jubilarians or soon-to-be Hosting the Re-union will have Progressive Deposits on their Funds to be use for the special occasion.

The Fund Raising is VERY DYNAMIC. We can tailor-fit it to the needs of each Batch.

Batch 87 opted to buy ten (10) cases of Beer at COST and sell it to the PUBLIC. They will receive one (1) peso from each bottle sold.

24K Venue Restaurant has reservations for today and tomorrow for an event (non-Lourdesians) and Batch 87 will automatically receive six (6) cases from that event.

The Fund Raising is RISK-FREE and No Logistics required from any Batch. It's beneficial to all Concerned, we plan to product Bundle it with Almuni's Projects such as Alumni I.D. card. We can buy ten (10) Alumni cards for every Batch that will join the Fund Raising so that we can help each other.

  Scholarship Programs
    Collegiate Scholarship & Adopt-A-Lourdesian

Fellow Lourdesians,

Pax et Bonum!!!

There are two existing programs of the alumni association namely, COLLEGIATE SCHOLARSHIP and ADOPT-A-LOURDESIAN.

COLLEGIATE SCHOLARSHIP

Established in 1982 by the LSAA EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION, INC., this program awards financial assistance of Php40,000.00 to a graduating senior high school being interviewed by a group of alumni assigned by the Foundation.  The candidates are pre-selected by the Guidance Office.  The successful candidate is being given to the poorest-of-the-poor and mostly belong to the school's Financial Assistance Program (FAP) or formerly known as night school.

Aside from the collegiate financial assistance, the Foundation donates to the winner of the St. Francis Award and to the Mission Capuchino.

LSAA EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION, INC. is chaired by Peter Lim '67 and members of the board include the following alumni: Messrs. Amador Bacani, Joey Lopez, Gabriel Villareal, Pepito Rodriguez together with Mr. Epifanio Paras, Frs. Troy de los santos and Ed Tiamson, OFM, Cap.  The late Delfin Almeda '69, first AA president is part of the board.

A donor to the Foundation of a sum of not less than Php5,000.00 shall become an honorary member.  The existing Honorary Members are Batch '65, Batch '67, Dr. and Mrs. Paterno Bacani, late Atty. Manuel Dulay, Mr. Alex Escalona, Mr. Stewart Go, Atty. Rodolfo Lat, Mrs. Hortencia Lim and Mr. Robert Ynson.

ADOPT-A-LOURDESIAN

Inspired by Batch 73s program of giving scholarship to high school students, the association adopted this last year.  All batches specially the silver jubilarians are encouraged to make this as project.

Current tuition of LSQC high school is approximately at Php50,000.00 per annum or a total of Php200,000.00 per student to finish the entire schooling.  Since this is a batch project, it is computed as one class size (40 people) which will amount to P1,250.00 per alumnus per annum or simply Php105.00 a month.

Batches who cannot afford full scholarship can join forces with other batches of their choice.  This a good avenue for all the jubilarians this year and join forces in sponsoring at least one qualified student.

Other forms of assistance are also welcome like donation of books to the scholars as most of them really come from the poorest of the Lourdes community.

Currently, there are 4 students under this program: 2 from 4th year and sponsored by Batch 73 and 82 respectively, 1 in 2nd year sponsored by Batch 82 and another in freshman sponsored by Batch 76.  Batch 73 has since graduated 3 scholars.

Screening of both scholarship programs are handled by the Guidance Office

FUTURE PLANS

The scholarship ad-hoc committee under the Projects Committee led by Past AA President Bernie Abis '79 is currently mapping details of an Endowment Fund to be presented to the current Rector to increase and augment the current Financial Assistance program.  There was a drastic decline of scholars under this program as the school can no longer finance one class size per year level.

Since this is an ambitious project, it is going to be a multi-sectoral effort which includes the school administration and the Parent Council.

All programs are doable and with the full assistance of the alumni community, nothing is impossible!

2nd Saint Pio of Pietrelcina Medical Mission

Fellow Alumni and Friends,

PAX ET BONUM!

I am pleased to report on the success of the 2nd St. Pio of Pietrelcina Medical Mission held at the Welcome House, 1641 West Zamora St., Paco, Manila, this morning, April 22, 2007. The Welcome House is ran by the Good Shepherd sisters led by the sweet caring Sister Mary Anne founded in the 50's established to help problematic and traumatized unwed mothers, battered teenage girls and mothers, troubled young ladies and even orphans and castaways.

Pres George Escarraga through an intermediary was approached last year and was requested to hold a medical mission there. After an occular inspection and some interviews, and after a board approval, we decided to hold the 2nd St. Pio of Pietrelcina Medical Mission there, the Welcome House being located in the heart of the poor section of Manila. We tapped our alumni and other friends for the supply of medicines as well as the doctors and support personnel needed.

Up to last night, medicines from Abbot made their way to the Alumni Office where the floor was almost 1/4 full of medicines from Unilab and the glucolyte from Rene Felizardo of Batch 79. Alex De Vera batch 69 and myself loaded all of it his in van at 615am and headed to the site with Pres George on hand to meet and help us unload. Patients poured in at 7 am and kept on coming. We lost count after the 600th patient. A platoon of Doctors led by our very own AP De Dios batch 88 and Al De Villa of Batch 84 saw to them all. Mario Mariano batch 82 was on hand to take pics and video of the event. We also have a contingent from our brods of LSM. Pres George will come up with the list of the names of the contributors, volunteers, Welcome House support staff, etc. in his report.

I took up the dispensing of the medicines and from what I saw from the prescriptions, the most common cases for the kids were malnourishment, parasite infestation, infections of the upper respiratory tract and urinary tract and diarrhea; for the adults the most common were muscle and joint pains, athritis, skin rashes and irritations, eye and ear problems, heart and lung problems.

The gates of the House were closed at 12 but I finally dispensed the last medicines at 130pm. The first to get out stock were the vitamins, paracetamol and other pain relievers. We didnt have anti parasitic drugs (pampurga) which was more often than not prescribed it was sad to think that even after dispensing the voluminous amounts of vitamins it might end up not in the kids bodies but in the parasite's.

We had a sumptous lunch of pansit (2 kinds), lechon manok, rice and tons of puto donated by supporters of the House and prepared by their staff. After all that we have gone through and with our tired bodies and minds, we are in agreement that it was a fulfillment, first of all, to our God, St. Pio, our Association and its supporters and to the poor community that we are more willing to share and serve.

Thank you very much for all the support specially the prayers and well wishes.

MON CABIGAO '79
Executive Director

PS: We will be posting the video and pictures in our website soon and watch our for Pres George's report.

Fellow Lourdesians, Friends and Benefactors:

Pax et Bonum!!!

The 2nd St. Padre Pio Medical Mission conducted last Sunday at the Welcome House in Paco, Manila was a HUGE SUCCESS!!! There were 287 families that were given medical assistance and we lost account after the 600th patient as the nuns gave only 500 tickets for the mission. Most of these patients represent "the poorest of the poor" in Manila.

This medical mission will not be successful without the support of the following sponsors and individuals who made it possible:

To UNILAB LABORATORIES for their unending support of medicines through the efforts of Messrs. Larry Reyes '69 (Director), Julius Manalo GS'75 (Vice-President) and Don Cabigao '81 (Manager),

To ABBOTT LABORATORIES through Atty. Olive Misa, Human Resources Director and wife of Ron Misa '84 and Rene Felizardo '79 for the additional medicines,

To Dr. Awet Roque '88 (opthalmologist) for coordinating this mission with our volunteer doctors,

To Drs. AP de Dios '88 (surgeon) and Al de Villa '84 (endoctrinologist) for heading the mission,

To Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority of the College of Medicine headed by their incoming civic action chair Cindy Sotalbo for volunteering their services,

To the Good Shepherd Sisters, administrators of Welcome House headed by Sister Mary Anne for their assistance,

To the Judan brothers (Carlo, Gino and John) alumni of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong for manning the registration and vital stats area together with nurse volunteer Judy Labor,

To the PILGRIMS headed by Yeng Ferrer and Flor Judan for sponsoring the food of our volunteers,

To the wonderful people of Paco, Manila

and last but not the least,

To the alumni who were present namely; Mon Cabigao '79, Alex de Vera '69 and Mario Mariano '82.

Thank you to everyone who have prayed, motivated and encouraged us to continue what was started. We appreciate very much all your feedbacks.

We hope we can see more alumni be part of this project in the near future.

George P. Escarraga
President

  Fund-Raising Projects

We are planning to have our own Texas Hold 'Em Poker fundraiser which will be conducted in cooperation with PAGCOR. We are just waiting for the formal proposal from them and we will advise any developments immediately. The target date is either 2nd or 3rd quarter of this year.

We will also be re-launching Unionbank Visa Card and Wheeler's Club projects. We are also currently negotiating a Memorandum-of-Agreement (MOA) between the school and a developer of a columbarium. Part of the sales proceeds of all these projects will benefit our association. Incidentally, the people behind these companies are our alumni.

We are encouraging everyone who have their own businesses or are executives of companies to tie-up with the association and let us discuss ways on how to help each other. Please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned or the alumni office.

We are looking forward for another successful yet challenging year.

  Increase & Update Database

Our objective is to link as many alumni as possible through our e-groups. We have in our database 329 subscribed members of various batches in our e-groups. We are targetting at least 1,000 subscribed members by the end-of-the-year.

Our protocol officer, Joey Abarquez and E-groups moderator, Ranello Anis are currently coordinating with various batch reps and moderators for some updates of our alumni for encoding in our databank. Mon Cabigao, our Executive Director is also assisting them and focusing on the 50s and 60s batches. We need to update also the professions of our alumni as our membership committee will categorize them accordingly for references.

We have two existing e-groups namely, lsqaa and lsqcnet. LSQCAA is intended for formal discussions and official announcements of the association whereas LSQCNET is intended for the lighterside such as jokes, forwarded e-mails, trivial matters, inquiries, etc. We will be launching also special features on the lsqcnet e-groups as fillers.

Everyone is encouraged to subscribe to both e-groups.

If there are any clarifications or suggestions on how to improve the service of the alumni association, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned or the alumni office.

  Alumni Handbook

This will serve as the guide and reference for all the alumni and future leaders of the association. It will contain the mission/vision statements of the association and other pertinent information such as the by-laws of our association and the organization structure itself.

We encourage the alumni to be active in all the endeavours of the association by contributing their time, talent and treasure. for those who want to volunteer their services in one of the committees, kindly contact the undersigned or the Executive Director.

Lourdes School Alumni Association Visa Card

Dear Alumni,

Greetings! Your Alumni Association has recently launched a special program and desires to reach out to every alumna to partake in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support your Alma Mater.

However, our initial efforts to contact you through your enlisted telephone numbers have not all been successful. We hope that through this e-mail, we will be able to pass on to you a creative gain-sharing undertaking.

We are pleased to introduce to you the Lourdes School Alumni Association VISA Card, a fund-raising project of Lourdes School Quezon City Alumni Association in cooperation with Lourdes School Mandaluyong Alumni Association and the UnionBank of the Philippines.

The Lourdes School VISA Card is a unique and convenient way of sharing with our less fortunate brothers the benefits of a Lourdesian education. That’s because UnionBank automatically donates one-half of your annual fee to the high school scholarship program of your Alumni Association. Moreover, every time you dine at a restaurant, travel, shop for clothes or groceries using your Lourdes School VISA Card, UnionBank gives a percentage of each transaction to the scholarship program.

Being an esteemed graduate of LSQC, you are pre-qualified for this VISA credit card. Application is simplified and no extensive document requirements. You just need to provide some information for your account to be processed and you can already experience the convenience and extraordinary benefit of a Lourdes School Alumni Association VISA credit card.

Apply now! Simply visit or contact your alumni office at:

• LSAA Affinity Card/Social Action Center, G/F High School Building, Lourdes School, Q.C., Tuesdays-Saturdays, 9:00am – 4:00pm. (Look for Jojo Cuevas, Program Coordinator LSAA-ACP)

• Alumni Office Telefax 781-6475;

Take advantage of this chance to share and live the spirit of St. Francis…for it is in giving that we receive!
